Shanti Ray BA E.V.A.

Shanti was born in Abergavenny, South Wales and grew up in Brynmawr inspired by the surrounding landscape of the Valleys and by her travels back to her Eastern roots of India and Nepal.
Primarily a  self-taught painter, by the age of 23 Shanti had set up a successful business as a Freelance artists and also held a number of work shops teaching Encaustic Art.
In 1998 she was short-listed for Welsh Woman of the Year and later went on to obtain her degree in Fine art in Cambridge. During this time she was also short-listed for the Welsh Artist of the Year 2002
Shanti returned to live in Clydach, South Wales in 2005, a place that is the basis of inspiration for much of her current work. She now runs a number of art classes for Coleg Gwent and enjoys encouraging her students to incorporate creativity into their lives.

“My response to nature, landscape and one’s personal experience are often themes of my work.
The process of creativity is organic and each painting I make is part of a continual journey of the Self and an attempt to try and convey my feelings of the moment without words.”
